Environmental Programs
Our company is located in Tacuarembo Department, the largest in Uruguay, well known for its vast green fields and landscapes. As is declared on the company's policy, Tacuarembo | Marfrig Group has an active role on maintaining the department's natural resources and works together with the local community to generate enviornmental awareness.
Tacuarembo | Marfrig Group Recycling Program
Given that resources are scarce, and our planet depends on our consciousness, Tacuarembo | Marfrig Group has put into practice a recycling program.
This plan includes recycling batteries, glass, plastics and cardboard among others. In order to be efficient several mechanisms are applied, for example, different colored bags are used to distinguish different materials and new batteries are only given if used batteries are returned.
When an important amount is attained, recycling companies from Tacuarembó city are informed and they pick the materials up.
Tacuarembo | Marfrig Group Wastewater Treatment
Following the worldwide tendencies to protect our environment, Tacuarembo | Marfrig Group has a system for the treatment of wastewaters used while processing meat that uses absolutely no chemicals and it is a natural process.
Thanks to a very effective system, dirty waters of Tacuarembo | Marfrig Group go through a sieve and then compressed air is added and the flotation process takes place, all solids therefore being eliminated and the waters are ready to go to the second stage. Here, they are sent to anaerobic ponds and later to facultative ponds going through a biological process and hence recovering its purity.
Finally, experts control the outcome and verify its purity according to the local regulations. As it follows a certain code of purity, the water is led to the Tacuarembó Chico stream.
