Organic Production

Every day more consumers around the world value healthy and natural products demanding at the same time nutritional value and flavor.
Thanks to Organic Awareness, we had the opportunity to satisfy these needs with an offer of products manufactured in harmony with the environment.

Our Organic Beef is produced in a natural way, thanks to the integration of Tacuarembó with a select group of cattle breeders committed to the use of renewable resources, soil and water preservation, and environment protection for future generations. In our Organic Beef production we do not use synthetic or anabolic fertilisers, hormones or growth stimulants.

What does Organic mean?
Organic beef is a new tendency that implies certain regulations that must be taken into account all along the production chain. Among these requirements, we find that the use of herbicides and fertilizers obtained through chemical synthesis like soluble phosphates and super-phosphates is forbidden. Only natural fertilizing is allowed in Organic Production. The use of transgenic or genetically modified feed is banned. Preventive sanitary handling is forbidden; only curative handling is allowed, with a longer withholding period for medication.

Why is it better?
There are two systems used to produce meat: feedlots in which the main nutritional sources are grains and industrial by-products and the Grazing system in which grass is the main feed source.

Animals raised on their natural feed tend to be healthier. Grass fed beef is significantly lower in fat and cholesterol than the grain fed varieties. It is higher in Omega 3 fatty acids and CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid), an anticarcinogenic associated with certain health benefits.

Flavor of grass-fed beef is usually described as “refined” and clean. The flavor of beef is mainly created through the natural grasses and seasonal variables with which the animal is raised. The flavor of free-range, grass-fed is simply the way beef is supposed to taste.

Our Certified Organic Beef Program
Since its origin in 2001, new ranches have been enlarging our Certified Beef Program year after year. Nowadays there are over 150 Certified Organic Ranches raising livestock for our Program. With almost 420.000 certified hectares (about 995.000 acres), the cattle has a vast area of green fields to grow naturally. The system employed by such ranchers can be compared to those of the US cattle industry in the 1940's, when all beef was raised in natural pastures, free-range.

The standard practices employed in raising livestock comply with NOP guidelines. All Certified Ranches and our Processing Plant are certified by Control Union Certifications, a prestigious Dutch company credited both in the EU and the US, which ensures the compliance with the most exigent international standards throughout all production stages, from cattle raising until meat processing. Our Processing Plant also complies with the “Good Manufacturing Practices – GMP”, “Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures – SSOP” and the “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points Program – HACCP”.
